COMMODORES LOG

Greetings from Risa.

The General, QuBang and myself have taken some well-earned R&R. We boarded an Air Britannia shuttle very early on the 27th and arrived on Risa at lunchtime. We were met by Madia Amme's sister Onna, who had booked us into one of her Time Share (oops sorry!) Vacation Ownership apartments. Risa bears a very strong resemblance to Gran Canaria. At least the part where we were staying did. Onna rented a runabout and showed us around. Major Madia must have had a word with her.

On the Tuesday, I am pleased to say, we recruited our first international postal member. His name is Jose Diaz Espino, and he works at the tourist attraction called 'Soux City'. Some days he is known as the Sheriff and on other days he is the bad guy. However, he is an avid Star Trek fan and noticed Martins Klingon Trefoil T-shirt. We showed Jose some Club photos we had taken with us to show Onna (or to give her, her proper name Donna) and he was very impressed. He speaks very good English (see photo) - check him out girls!

When we left the temperature was 29 deg C. We came back to 2 deg C and snow!

Them food had been wonderful - lots of fresh fish, salads and steaks - freshly cooked, beautifully served and reasonably priced. On the way back from the shuttleport we stopped at Motorway services for lukewarm curry, sweet-n-sour vegetables and high prices! Welcome Home, nothing changes.

We had a great weekend at USAF Mildenhall. Hopefully, we have recruited some new members. I am looking forward to seeing them at the meeting.

I have a plea from Bethany Heard. She and a lot of other fans were very disappointed when DeForest Kelley was not mentioned in the Honorative List at the Oscars. She has since found out, that it was not an oversight but a conscious decision as they felt that he had not contributed to the world of acting. This has distressed his widow and many close friends. A campaign of letters has been mounted - (see below for details) - DeForest Kelley did a lot of good work besides Star Trek but if he is only remembered for his work on Star Trek then that should be enough to get him on the list. He left behind millions of fans worldwide, who remember him with love and affection. Please join in the campaign… write a letter today… every letter sent will make a difference.

Welcome to new members Shannon Choi who is a stationed at USAF Lakenheath and Tom & Samantha Hudspeth who are stationed at USAF Mildenhall. We met them at the Klingon Days of Honour weekend at USAF Mildenhall. Shannon is also known as a Ferengi called Quek, I am sure they will all be a great asset to the club.

Welcome also to Helen Redfern, a new postal member and a friend of Bethany Heard. We met her last year at the Black Horse Star Trek evening.

Our next major event is the Hadleigh Sci Fi Convention where most of you will get this issue of the Newsletter. Sorry it's late but what with the holiday and SHARE (Rethink Disability) I have been rather busy.

Ball tickets are now available. Bring your friends and relations.

I am looking forward to seeing you all soon. In the meantime, all the best.

PERSONAL LOG

Lt John Borda - Personal Log Stardate: 190300

I Volunteered to escort a "goodwill contingent" over to USAF Mildenhall, who were celebrating the Klingon "Days of Honor". After meeting up, we were to proceed in a couple of shuttles. It was here I got my first shock - I was the only human in the party! There was Zuveda the Andorian, and the rest were all Klingons!

JaLynn, who was supposed to know the way, took us round the scenic route, but we managed to get there, and even managed to get the Klingons past base security - though not without some strange looks from the guards - you'd think they'd never seen a Klingon close-up before!

Once there, we proceeded to their Promenade deck, where the celebrations were taking place. B'sel had brought along her three children, who seem to have adopted me to greater or lesser extent, one of whom thought it would be fun to perennially hit my communicator badge, generating a lot of "false calls". Visions of how the General used bulkheads for crew discipline crossed my mind on a number of occasions.

One of the shops offered a variety of replica ancient swords, one or two reasonably authentic looking, though a large number were too ornamental to have much practical use. I discovered that B'sel had also studied the Japanese katana - and wasn't afraid to use it! This led to a rather embarrassing moment (which may get reported elsewhere), though fortunately I have been known to talk my way out of tricky situations! However, I was also able to show her a few moves of my own which got me back on her good side.

The Promenade quickly filled with children, the variety of food stores seemed to be a regular attraction over the weekend, and the General was happily scaring them witless. The manager gave us vouchers for lunch and refreshments, though some of the Klingons were somewhat miffed that the "refreshments" didn't include bloodwine! Still a filling lunch was available, (yes, I know it wasn't fresh- i.e. alive!) and I think everyone was well fed.

One does miss the wriggle of fresh gaakh as it tries to fight it's way up one's throat- the trick is to drop it in head-first! The really wild versions can deliver "a little bite to the back of the throat" on the way down. For a real buzz, there are electric versions as well, I know the Ambassador's partial to these as they wiped out some files on a disk he sent me!

Several people promised to come back the next day with cameras, so I'm sure a good time was had by our hosts. Unfortunately my duties prevented me from returning - I await to hear how the Sunday went!

WEBLEY THE SPIDER

FROM THE DESK OF THE KLINGON AMBASSADOR

nuqneH (Greetings), from the Empire.

I've spent the last nine hours discussing the joint defence plans of the Alpha Quadrant (believe me it's not half as much fun as it sounds). A small room and fourteen assorted Ambassadors and miscellaneous representives of Heads of State. I've come to the sad conclusion that, at the outset, all we had in common was our Ambassadorial Status.

The Federation Special Envoy and I get on well, likewise the Station's Bajoran Ambassador. The Vulcan Ambassador is as humourless as I expected, yet I had the strangest feeling that he was silently mocking me (paranoia, perhaps?).

The Romulan Ambassador even objected to the decor! Though I believe that she was just trying to put us all on the defensive. Playing the game of diplomacy with Romulans is problematic at best. Consider for a moment, playing chess while blindfolded against a Grand Master. You can't see the board, you can't see the pieces and you suspect that your opponent is probably cheating, but you just can't prove it.

Then there is the Ferengi Alliance. Since the appointment of Grand Negus Rom, they seem to desire a place at the Federation's table. Though, at the moment they are content to squabble for scraps like the dogs they are.....

This Defence Alliance will, it seems, take many weeks, maybe even months to cement. We all have to learn to walk beneath the same banner, march to the same drum....

I have been looking back over the last few days of the Dominion War. Now I am not one to boast, but your Klingon Ambassador was there at the re-taking of Deep Space Nine. the IKV ghar (diplomacy) was in at the kill! I personally led the eight assault wing, comprising of four Vor'cha Class assault strike cruisers, four upgraded K'tinga Class cruisers, six K'vort Class birds of prey and two B'rel Class scouts. I list them here for future historians:-

Vor'cha Class Assault Strike Cruisers

IKV jeghbe' No Surrender
IKV wemwI' Violator Heavily Damaged
IKV Hov ram Night Star Heavily Damaged

IKV jIrmoH Bat'leth Twirler Destroyed
IKV veqlargh lem fek'lhr's Hoof

B'rel Class Scouts

IKV He SamwI' Pathfinder
IKV joqwI Flag Bearer Heavily Damaged

We won the war, but at a great price. But what price is freedom?

Many of you witnessed my becoming a DeHar pIn'a (a Dehar Master). I've worked hard for the Empire and those who were at the last meeting will testify to the fact that I didn't expect my Knighthood.

Now there comes a time for sadness. By now, many of you may have heard of the death of Kor, a Dehar Master. It is to this end that I write this poem.....

A proud warrior will stand alone.
I will watch over you tonight.
Proud Kor, I remember thee.
I hear the warriors cry out.
You, who lived with Honour,
You, who died a great warrior.
Great deeds you've done,
Great songs you've sung.
For there is no wrong in falling
before a superior enemy,
In time, I'll see you in Sto-vor-kor,
my friend.

Please forgive me for breaking out of character for a moment. But I would like to dedicate this page to the late John Colicos (the Actor who played the part of the Klingon warrior known as Kor). It is always sad to mark someones passing. My thoughts are with his family at this time.

If you would like to leave a tribute, there is a tribute page available on the net. It has links from :-

FROM USS LUTONIA

Hi to all members of Starbase 410 from

Hello, Once again to all members of our sister club at Starbase 410. Firstly may I thank all of you for your company recently. I have filed the following report on our recent visit to you in our ship's files:

Admirals Log Stardate:19.03.2000

Once again the U.S.S Lutonia made the long trip to the Delta Quadrant to visit our friends at Starbase 410. And once again as so often happens there were warrior’s stories to tell round the campfire at night. Some fifteen volunteers of our gallant crew made the journey in three shuttles. Which once again had an incident when the pilot of the lead shuttle managed to get lost on the planet of Barrow, drove down a Ferengi driveway, did a U turn across the front lawn, loyally followed by two other shuttles. Much to the amusement of the lawnmower man and the embarrassment of us.

Furthermore, when Richard Daubney walked into the local Cock pub in a Ferengi mask he made an instant impression on the locals and reduced the landlord to a quivering wreck of hysterics. That aside, the away team had the first of two great pub sessions that day. The crew of Starbase 410 made us very welcome with refreshments and various activities that were going on both inside and outside the hall. We also made new friends, such as the original Klingon all the way from the quadrant of Manchester. Unfortunately we failed to win the bottle of Romulan Ale in the raffle, though I did win a bottle of wine and Daniel won a camera. Overall the away team had an enjoyable day out with the crew of Starbase 410 and would recommend that if you still have not been there, then join us on our next visit in our own new club minibus shuttle. Lastly we assimilated the Silver Lion pub in the quadrant of Lilly on the way home for more Romulan Ale for the needy.

Stardate: 22.03.2000 – Live on Radio Scotland.

Admiral Andrew Fazekas was invited to talk live to the Scottish Nation at the unearthly time of 09.00hrs. The airtime lasted just six minutes but the DJ was unable to take the pee, nor were his mystery guests, as the Admiral assimilated them all, one by one. Plus the fact that the DJ liked the sound of his own voice too much, also helped in an easy lesson in how to assimilate a DJ.

Stardate: 24.03.2000 U.S.S Lutonia Science Fiction Auction Event

Despite only two thirds of the club turning up and the failure of two other clubs to arrive we still managed an attendance of thirty-five, due to interested members of the Public coming along. Not only this, but we also managed at least two new memberships on the night and two more from this event to come, which means that the membership for March has trebled. The event itself ran smoothly thanks to our engineer’s hard work and despite ever continuing problems with our hosts who don’t really seem to appreciate us. There was a big exchange of latinum for goods and some of those goods were brought at bargain prices. The Event was notable also for the turn out of new members to the club and the new uniforms on display.

As with all our events it was hard to retrieve the crew from Ten Forward due to overflowing Romulan ale.

We are hoping to visit your event on April 16th if possible and I cannot wait to take more orders on Terrok Nor in the mines. There are also plans afoot to arrive around midday at your home base and go for a full slap up meal in the Cock pub just in case anyone wishes to join us. We will also be going back for more later, as well. We are also revamping our fanzine and I am sure Ann will let see it if you ask nicely of course. We may have spaces on our raft at Bedford for any of you who may wish to gloriously sink with us "Today is a good day to sink". Once again we are looking for a vehicle of some kind and a charitable cause to collect for in the Luton carnival. If you can help, please call us.

Lastly I have a special message for John the Borg, Assimilation only takes four minutes!!!

Live Long and Prosper

Admiral Andrew Fazekas

Commanding Officer

U.S.S Lutonia NCC - 1996
