Kane

This is the sad tale of Kane. Patched together from various accounts, by those who have travelled into the Mirror Universe...

Kane is a monster, a soulless killing machine, a torturer of women and children. A creature, that kills on command. And the personal Assassin of the cruel Intendant...

But it wasn’t always this way. The First account of Kane, (Is while he and I still shared a name. Yes, he was once called Ke’reth.) Reports have him as Commanding officer of the Alliance Warship Talon. A Vor’cha Class Cruiser, that was assigned to hunt down and destroy any non Alliance ships that it found. After capturing their crews and sending them to the Stations slave run Ore Processing Centre...

But it seems that he originally had a higher set of morals. He actually allowed a number of vessels to escape intact. Tricking his own crew by projecting holographic targets, and altering the Talon’s sensors to receive false sensor readings. The reason for this, is probably because of his meeting with a Joined Trill, by the name of Talzia Vren. A Trill who led a Resistance cell, known only as `Hope.’ A Trill, who now hosted the Symbiont of the resistance groups previous leader. A man known as Laval Vren...

It seems, that Ke’reth actually fell in love with Talzia Vren, and even had a little girl with Talzia. A little girl who was later given the name of Hope. For with the help of the resistance, he’d captured the crew of the Talon by filling the ship with a powerful nerve gas. Soon the resistance would have a voice. With Ke’reth’s knowledge and the Talon. The resistance hunted down and destroyed seven enemy vessels within two weeks...

Then seven years later, Ke’reth was injured while defending his family. A glancing blow from a Bat’leth smashed the side of skull, and he fell. But he wasn’t lucky enough to die. He was captured by troops loyal to the Intendant. She ordered that his damaged eye be removed, but not replaced as a punishment. As soon as Ke’reth awoke from the surgery, he demanded to speak to her. When she did not arrive. He attacked, and slit the throats of three of the Cardassian Medical officers present with a laser scalpel. She had him darted with a powerful Anaesthetic and ordered him to tell her of other Terrans that had escaped her forces, he refused. So she brought his wife and child into the interrogation room. He protested, their presence. But refused to speak. Unbeknownst to Ke’reth, a small implant had been placed within his brain. He couldn’t stop himself as he screamed in pain. Fighting his own body. He lumbered Zombie-like, and unthinking in his movements, as he tried in vain to shake his nightmare state. His eyes saw the action his body took. But he could not stop his hands as enclosed around the young girls throat and strangled the life from her. Her last tear filled word, escaped her mouth "vavoy (Daddy.)" Blood tricked from his ear, as he fought the implant. A single well aimed blow from his right hand broke his wife’s neck, killing her almost instantly...

Some said, that the man died that day. Becoming little more than a plaything of the intendant. An unthinking monster, that only lived to do the Intendant’s bidding. A year later she rewarded him, by having him fitted with an electronic Targeting Scope. And sent him to work for her as an Overseer in the station’s ore processing plant. While there, he killed both guards and prisoners with equal zeal. The Intendant was impressed. And had him renamed, taking his new designation from Terran Mythology. She named him Kane. And took him on - as her personal bodyguard, and Assassin...

The man died, the monster was born. She left the memories of his actions intact to haunt him. By all accounts, he is now lethally dangerous and quite insane...

In 2377 Kane again finds himself at the Intendant’s mercy. An enraged Intendant, after receiving Ke’reth’s insincere Holographic apology for damaging her station and killing a number of her specially trained guards. Ordered Kane to round up a number of prisoners for execution.

Kane just stood there. He’d seen the man he should have been. And for the first time in Kane’s life he asked why?. The Intendant was furious. First of all she was seven Officers down, with five more in the station’s infirmary She had a Balcony that had been completely destroyed, and a number of blast damaged internal doors. But what was worse, was that she’d lost face. Then the cruelest of ideas struck her. She rounded on Kane and ordered him to sickbay. (A made to Order torture suite.) There an inexperienced surgeon removed Kane’s ridges, removing the last vestiges of his Klingon appearance. But leaving Horrific scarring in it’s place...

News had reached her of a planned uprising, something she had to crush in it’s infancy. So she let it be known that a Terran pilot ‘Kenneth Crane’ had been captured by Alliance forces. His single seat fighter destroyed, and Kenneth’s face had been disfigured by fire. He now wore a silver half face mask, to cover his disfigurement. She then had the new personality programming added to Kane’s already insane mind. Including a carefully created six year Memory of being a Captain in the Terran resistance. Cruelest of all though was her taking elements of Kane’s previous life, Including the death of his wife and child, apparently now killed by Cardassian soldiers. She then made him a Terran area overseer to Sector B-12, the area where she’d been told of a possible resistance uprising. It was here, that Kane informed on a number of Terran slaves leading to their immediate execution...

It is not known whether Kane will ever be completely trusted by his cruel Mistress, ever again. Some would say, that it would be kinder to kill him now...
